Yummy Grandma’s Cookies

This week we’re sharing holiday recipe for Monday’s holiday traditions over at the Vamplit Blog. Here’s one of my favorite cookie recipes, but not because of the taste since they are loaded with gluten, and I can’t eat the stuff. No, I love this recipe because it was written on paper by Michael’s great grandmother some years ago and he framed it. I bring it out every year at Thanksgiving and display it with all the other holiday decorations. Besides loving the history associated with this recipe, I love the actual recipe itself. Read it below as it is on the paper and you’ll see why.

Sugar Cookies

  • 2c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 1 1/2 c milk
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 2 t. BP
  • pinch soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • flour to roll

Thick – cake Type
Thin – crisp wafer

The flour to roll is equal to about 7 cups. I mix up the dough every Thanksgiving, divide it in half and bake up half for Thanksgiving dessert and the other half for whenever. All together it makes about 6 or 7 dozen cookies, oh my!
