Brown Bag Wine Tasting

I found Brown Bag Wine Tasting with William Shatner awhile back, but forgot to feature it on Wine Wednesday. I’ll mention that he tastes wine with some interesting people and leave it at that. Go over and enjoy a few episodes. Brown Bag Wine Tasting with William Shatner – The Webseries: Bill goes out into the public with a bottle of wine in a brown paper bag. After meeting a new friend, they taste and … Read more

Movie Review: Dead Heist

Early on, you wouldn’t guess Dead Heist is a zombie movie. The zombies don’t show up until the last 30 minutes. In fact, the film dragged a bit in the beginning, but it wasn’t horrible. Here’s what it’s about: Four petty crooks get a tip on a small-town bank job worth millions. Their plan is perfect and every detail is in place, but as the job unfolds, they discover that this little town is overrun … Read more

Join Me on Vivino

Below is a re-post from the Minor Insanity blog back a few months ago. We’re shutting down that blog and Wine Wednesday has moved here. I want to mention that I’ve been using Vivino regularly and have tried out a few other wine apps. Vivino beats the others by far and last weekend I went Pro. So if you drop by and read and are on Vivino, below is a link to my account. Connect … Read more

Movie Review: Rise of the Zombies

MY BAD ZOMBIE MOVIE REVIEWS ARE BACK! In the past I’ve done these around Halloween, but I’ve been jonesin’ to watch some bad zombie movies lately. Just a quick reminder, I have a passion for low-budget sci-fi and horror movies, especially the really bad, low-rated ones that no one else likes. I purposely seek out the worst of the worst horror movies in particular and sit, start to finish, through 99.5% of ’em no matter … Read more

The Warlock Movies

Sorry, no low-budget movies this week. Why? Netflix distracted me with suggestions to watch the Warlock movies. Now I had already seen the first movie, many times in fact and have even read the print version. I had no idea they made two more movies, so I had to watch them. Warlock (1989), gosh has it been that long since I first saw this movie? Anyways, here’s what it’s about. “In 17th century Boston, a … Read more

Lessons for Kittens

The kittens looked on while their mother jumped into the baby carriage. “Don’t be afraid, my darlings. Come join me and watch my technique,” she meowed in a variable pitch. “First you exhale and approach cautiously so as not to wake the sleeping child. Next inhale deeply while you steal the baby’s breath. The 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. The challenge runs every Wednesday, beginning … Read more

Try Unchained Naked Chardonnay

I’ve decided to shut down the Minor Insanity blog and re-post my #WineWednesday posts here until I have time write new posts, probably in June after the insane Story a Day in May challenge. This week I’m expressing my love for Unchained Naked Chardonnay a wine by Big House Wine Company. They say on their website: “We veered off the California standard by using steel tank and neutral oak barrels; thereby preserving the true fruit … Read more

Make Him Take This Pill and I’ll Call You in the Morning

Molly slumped in her chair. She was feeling weaker this morning and could barely lift her arms to scratch the constant itching sensation on her neck. Her husband sat beside her in their doctor’s office, and she wished Dr. Lewis would hurry up. He was already ten minutes late. A damn doctor should be on time to his appointments, especially when delivering a prognosis. Her husband, Bill, reached over and took her hand. “No matter … Read more

Vinny No Neck Wine, Spicy and Flowery

This week I decided to try something new, so I pulled the first wine that caught my eye, Vinny No Neck by Bonacquisti Wine Company. I was then excited to find that it’s a Denver produced wine, which means we can visit the tasting room. Here’s what they say about their wine. In honor of our son Vincent (who will be a foot taller once he grows a neck). This Italian style red is a … Read more

Sexy Wine Labels

As Valentines day quickly approaches and considering my hubby pulled out a bottle of The Watchers from Fetish Wines for tonight, this post was a given. Hmmm . . . I wonder what he has planned this evening? Let’s face it, we’re all suckers for a sexy wine label whether it’s the name of the wine or the picture on front. I can’t argue with all the articles I’ve read today, sex sells! And so … Read more

Fine Chopper Art

This week’s 55 Word Challenge is to write a story about how the survivors of the apocalypse have fun with zombies. I went the creative arts route. The artist examined the outline of the Mona Lisa he copied from memory onto the wall. “Now we glue the zombie teeth on the drawing,” he said. “The tricky part is matching the shades of decay to the original piece by Leonardo da Vinci.” “What is this called … Read more

Short Shelf Life

Today I educated myself on sulfite free wines, and I think I’ll pass on buying any in the future. We don’t have any allergies in our family to the stuff, so no need to drink it anyways. Side note, one of the interesting things I learned is that wine has less sulfites than most dried fruit. Main reason is because we maintain a pretty large collection of wine at any given time. Until today, I … Read more

Story a Day in May

I just joined Story a Day in May today. I had found this event last year and put it on the Visionary Press calendar, but forgot about it until I checked email this morning and found the reminder. At first I posted I wished I had time to do this event. Then I realized that was an excuse and decided to make time. This is the perfect challenge for me right now. I even dragged … Read more

Wine & Cookies

Welcome to my kitchen. Yes, this is the spacious counter where I spend countless hours cooking and baking. In fact, it’s one of my most favorite places in the world, especially when the family gathers around to talk, eat, drink and celebrate. I lost all motivation to write or edit this afternoon, so I made cookies instead. Gluten-free, sugar cookies with sprinkles on the first dozen and sliced almonds on the second dozen. See the … Read more

More Reading Time Please

I try to read at least 60 books a year and that hasn’t happened for a few years now. Another goal that has fallen short. This year I’ve only read 5 books and I usually read that many a month. It’s not that I’m not reading. I’ve spent most of time reading unpublished works, and no offense, I need some quality time with quality books. This year I’d really like to catch up on some … Read more

Million Word Challenge

When I went out to find a graphic for this post I looked up the title and found that there actually are million word challenges for reading. Looks to be primarily in California, but we have one in Denver Public Schools too. Wouldn’t it be great if this went national? Or if authors and publishers got involved and donated 1,000,000 words annually to each public school library. Let’s just say that’s an average of 20 … Read more

When Goals Attack

This year I set goals like I do every year, only this year they were pretty pathetic. Let’s just say I’ve been in a foul mood most of 2013, unhappy and confused about much of the direction my life and career have taken over the past few years. We all go through rough patches and I’m more than ready for this spate of misfortunes to end. The last few weeks have been particularly difficult. I’m … Read more

Leftover Wine

Welcome Back to Wendy’s Wine Fest! HOORAY! One of my resolutions for 2013 is more blogging about fun stuff. So, how could I not bring back my wine reviews? I want to do more than just reviews this year. I’ll be writing about wine festivals, wine & cooking classes, and generally anything else related to wine. Wine and cooking are two of my greatest escapes from the stresses of writing, editing and managing a publishing … Read more

Kendall Jackson Ain’t Bad Wine

I missed a few weeks posting because I’m on partial vacation and very busy over at Visionary Press Cooperative. Starting a new business is FUN FUN FUN, but soooo time consuming. I’m so glad I’ve got the support of Blaze McRob and Sue Mydliak through our start up! This will be a quick one just because I wanted to make sure I posted. In fact, I’ll probably post more of our favorites until after the … Read more

Oops!

And I don’t mean that I’m posting my wine suggestion late this Wednesday. That’s actually the name of the wine. I’m pretty lazy tonight, so this will be short and sweet. We’ve been drinking Oops Wines for a little over a year now and it’s on our regular purchase list. We get them from Safeway, who seems to be the only carrier of the wine in our area. Tonight’s selection was Carmen’re Merlot. The (oops) … Read more
